Students of the Abington School District joined with educational leaders at the recent groundbreaking.  In the center of the photograph are Dr. Jeffrey Fecher, Assistant Superintendent of the Abington School District;  Dr. Amy Sichel, Superintendent of the District;  and Mr. Angelo Berrios, Principal of the Abington Senior High School.

"It brings me great pride to be here today as we begin this new chapter for Abington Senior High School," stated Dr. Sichel.  "What I love most about this project is the benefit it will bring to every student in our District.  It will serve as a catalyst for a new way of preparing the children of Abington and Rockledge for college and careers, ensuring they are future ready."

Mr. Josiah Campbell, President of Student Council at Abington Senior High School,
spoke at the groundbreaking on behalf of the student body.

“First, I would like to say that it is amazing to be a part of a community this wonderful," stated Mr. Campbell.  "This year I have become close with various members of administration, and the faculty, and it has shown me how greatly the staff here desire to bring a high standard of education to the high school.  Teachers are always willing to help students, and always have an exuberant amount of love for the subjects they teach.  A strong education creates leaders of tomorrow, who will mold our world into a better one, and our community fosters an environment that creates students who challenge the norm."

Mr. Raymond McGarry, President of the Board of School Directors,
also spoke at the groundbreaking for this $104 million construction project.

"We wanted to build a school for the far future," explained Mr. McGarry.  "One that would serve generations of students, much in the way the current school has.  It’s easy to put bricks together to create more space, but how can we revolutionize what goes inside our high school?  How do we make it not just bigger, but better?  Thanks to the vision of Dr. Sichel, the generosity of Mr. Schwarzman, and the hard work of countless others districtwide, the Board of School Directors and I are confident we are exceeding that goal with the additions and renovations project and the construction of the Stephen A. Schwarzman Center for Science and Technology."
